Sport and nutrition are the two necessary aspects of a winning program and they can’t be separated. It is important to pay attention to both aspects in order to have great performances and special results as a sportsman or sportswoman. Sport and nutrition should be the concern of the young athletes’ parents and that is why the sport dietitian or nutritionist should communicate with the parents about the most important aspects of the needed nutrition for a successful sportsman or sportswoman.

There are some basic aspects that should be taken into account while speaking about sport and nutrition. The first is having the necessary knowledge about the needed daily caloric intake in order to have good performances during the sport time. In the case you fail having the needed calories the performances will be weak or unsatisfactory. It is important to make a distinction between the extra pounds of fat and the extra pounds of muscle mass and in many cases only a specialist may tell which case is which. Knowing this, the specialist may advice you to have a special diet in order to build in a rapid way the necessary muscle mass and to lose the undesirable fat storage. The diet will contain high protein foods in order to help the rebuilding process of the muscle mass and more amounts of water, which is responsible for keeping the muscle mass altogether. Avoiding dehydration is one of the basic principles of the sport and nutrition subject.

Planning an efficient but not too heavy meal before the game is another basic aspect of the sport and nutrition program. Avoiding hunger before the great event is very important, but overeating is another possible problem that may transform into an unpleasant show. A balanced meal before the game should be satisfactory for the feeling of hunger in the body and providing a relatively empty rather than full stomach for the game. The necessary amounts of water should be provided in order to avoid dehydration during the game time. Avoiding the hunger before the game may help balancing the sugar level in the blood and providing the necessary energy for the body to perform great during the game time.

Another important aspect of the sport and nutrition program is keeping the high level of performance by keeping high energy levels. Exercise habits and the healthy eating habits should be the priority so that the proper diet (the caloric intake) and the right use of the energy would contribute to winning performances. Having enough time for eating healthy snacks if the classic three healthy meals are not possible to have is very important. Not eating enough (more than three time a day) or not eating the right foods may be the main cause of low performances, because the energy levels cannot be maintained in a proper level. The nutritionist may help figuring out what is the cause of the low energy levels and what are the possible solutions for preventing the appearance and development of the same problem. Eating too much food high in protein instead of the needed fruits and vegetables may be another cause of the low performances, as the body lacks some essential nutrients in order to function well and in order to give its best during the training process and game time.

Keeping the needed fluid level is another basic aspect of the sport and nutrition program for achieving great performances. Water is responsible for an efficient fat loss process and for the rebuild process of the muscle mass. Water is what keeps the muscle mass, preventing the body from dehydration, weight loss and other undesirable consequences. These are the basic principles of an efficient sport and nutrition program for the best achieved results.
