  • Products Used As A Remedy For Hair Loss

Definition of The Type Of Hair Loss Products.

Hair loss products are designed to stop baldness, slow it down, or cover it up. They may be medicines, or topical lotions and shampoos. Some are made from natural ingredients and others include steroids

Before you consider any type of product to arrest or retard baldness, the promotion of hair growth, consider the fact that products of this type are often marketed to men, as weight reduction programs are promoted to women. That means that a lot of the claims made may not work for you. It may mean that there is not adequate treatment for your type of hair loss. The mechanisms to market these products exploit desperation.

It is worth a consideration that the treatment of alopecia is big business and this has increased with technological advances and the fact that sufferers can buy products anonymously over the Internet. There are clinical trials needed for new products either natural products or medicines. If you are accepted in clinical trials you may even be paid to undergo treatment.

If there is no effective topical lotion to cure or arrest the problem you may want to explore the permanent treatment for hair loss treatments. These include employing a different hairstyle, wigs and or hairpieces, hair weaves and other forms of artificial hair replacement.

Propeci and Rogaine are the only two hair loss medications that are currently approved by the FDA.

  • Propecia
  • Propecia is the most widely used remedy for baldness in men. Propecia prevents and then reverses hair loss, it has been clinically proven to prevent hair loss in 80% of cases, and 64% of the people studied had a hair re-growth.

The down side of propecia is that it can have side effects. In a small percentage of men it has affected their libido, however the effect is reversed when the drug is discontinued.

  • Rogaine
  • Rogaine is an over-the-counter hair loss treatment that can, like Propecia, provide some defense against the initial stages of hair loss. It is also used to promote hair growth after a hair transplant. Rogaine can also be effective for women. It is a topical solution, which means that it is applied directly to the scalp where the hair is thinning.

  • Minoxidil
  • Minoxidil is the active ingredient in Rogaine for men and women. It is also used in other hair loss treatment products, such as Avacor and Hair Advantage. Many users of Minoxidil do not achieve the results they expect from using such products. According to the maker of Rogaine, Minoxidil only works on what the vertex area that is the top middle area of the scalp.

Minoxidil, was as an internal medication to treat severe blood pressure, but it became apparent that men who took it every day had increased hair growth. If administered externally as a lotion directly to a " bald spot" at the top of the head that still had "peach fuzz" hairs remaining, a 2% solution of minoxidil was shown to be able to start the hairs growing longer and becoming thicker again in a small percentage of men. Now produced under the trade name of Rogaine, minoxidil does slow the effect of hair loss. The success rate in promoting re-growth is limited.

  • Avodart
  • Avodart is a second-generation 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor, used in the treatment of prostate enlargement. It is unique in that it inhibits the type 1 and type 2 enzymes responsible for the conversion of testosterone to DHT (dihydrotestosterone), the primary cause of prostate growth. Advodart's dual inhibition decreases levels of DHT by 90 percent at two weeks and 93 percent at two years. This treatment is still primarily used for the treating of prostate disorders; its effect on hair growth is a side effect.

  • Revivogen
  • Revivogen is made with the safest, most powerful natural ingredients to form a product that not only combats hair loss, but also promotes thicker, fuller and healthier hair growth.

Products like Nanogen and DermMatch etc can give excellent results, as a cover up, they are not cures for baldness. It is not a fast acting treatment no change can be observed for six months. What makes evaluation of the treatment difficult is the fact that no two people have a typical reaction. It works for some and does not work for others.
