The prevention of the Alzheimer’s disease should start earlier than the most frequent age when it may be developed. The fact that many elder patients develop this type of dementia may be helpful in establishing some special procedures for its prevention. The statistics of the Alzheimer’s disease show that 25 to 50% develop this affection after reaching the age of 85. Nevertheless, the risk of having the symptoms and of developing the disease later is doubled every five years after the age of 65. Although there are no clear prevention methods for the Alzheimer’s disease (all of them were studied in the case of animals), there are some acknowledged risk reducers.

Among the risk reducers for developing the Alzheimer’s disease the healthy lifestyle is the most important. A healthy lifestyle may include regular physical exercise and this may not be necessarily the case of fitness and special daily exercising, but an active way of living (walking more, sports on week-ends, etc.) may play an important role in preventing the development of the Alzheimer’s disease. Another ingredient of the healthy lifestyle is a healthy diet with low carbs and low fats. This may not be enough; that is why the supplementation with B vitamins and Omega 3 fatty acids might be necessary. A diet that contains fresh fruit and vegetables is also very important, as well as fresh fruit and vegetable juices with no sugar and preservatives. Antioxidants also play an important role in reducing the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Vitamin E in combination with vitamin C may be helpful in this respect. If taking into account the importance of antioxidants in the overall health they may be considered highly important and should be introduced in the daily diet of everyone.

The regular use of aspirin or other anti-inflammatory drugs, which are non-steroidal, also has a great role in reducing the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. There is another ingredient of the healthy lifestyle that is not mentioned very often, but its role is decisive in reducing the risk of the appearance of the Alzheimer’s disease symptoms. This important ingredient is the regular social interaction. Its importance is diminished by the lifestyle imposed by the last decades – the importance of media, the implications of TV programs, films, computer and internet, etc. on the daily life and overall development of the individuals. It is highly important, especially for the elder persons to have real relationships and regular social interaction. This may be very helpful, especially in the case of elder persons who live with their family, benefiting from the loving and affectionate atmosphere of the home.

Some other risk reducers may be the opposite of the risk factors and are simply to deduce. Cardiovascular problems are considered risk factors and therefore reducing the cholesterol level, the number of the smoking cigarettes and of alcohol are important methods of taking care of health and reducing the risks of developing Alzheimer’s disease later. Diabetes and hypertension are other risk factors of the possible development of dementia. That is why the proper lifestyle with a healthy diet and a healthy activity program are so important – these aspects may prevent not only diabetes and other cardiovascular problems, but also the Alzheimer’s disease. Another risk factor may be connected with the exposure to heavy metals, be it the case of copper or even aluminum. Head injury is another risk factor and among other unpleasant consequences the development of Alzheimer’s disease may be the worst.

These tips may be useful if taking into account another important aspect – there is no treatment for the Alzheimer’s disease. There are some drugs that may bring some changes in the harshness of the symptoms, but the most important aspect is that this disease may be prevented if respecting some valuable advices useful for other health aspects.
